Hi there
I am replacing the Carter AFB on my 318 with an Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb.
I have a mild cam and tubular stainless steel exhaust manifolds. I have read the Edelbrock installation manual but am looking for first hand practical advice on tuning the carb. What has anyone found the best settings for jets, rods and springs are please, and where can I get rods, jets and springs in the uk? Preferably mail order. Car is used for normal street use.
Can anyone recommend anywhere in South Wales who are good at tuning Mopars, in case I cant get it set up right myself.
Thanks

https://www.webcon.co.uk/products/613-1 ... ation-kit/

dunno if the kit is right
look at the cost!!!

Magnetti Marelli/LCN in spain who make the official weber carbs also make the current edelbrock carbs you will find a weber logo on there somewhere

for 500 and 600 CFM carbs find a rover v8 specialist the kits may be cheaper and they can probably help tune

suggest you start off with a workshop manual for a 4 barrel equipped mopar of similar capacity that used a Carter AFB and use that as a base for the primary side

oh i see you have an AFB, use its setup as your base line

i.e jets springs and rods

worry about secondaries when you have primaries working well

weighted air flap wire it shut
spring loaded air flap set the tension high so the secondaries don't come in

until you have the primary side sorted out

That all i can say i sold mine and put DCOEs on my 6 cylinder motor instead or the 4BBL.

nice carbs when they work well, they are great, finding someone to help is harder

i just used one as a stop gap on a journey i didn't realise i was taking a journey into the equivalent of 6 carbs on 1 motor

Hi Mr Oak :D
Real Steel in Uxbridge do several Edelbrock tuning kits for various model carbs. Check to see if yours is on the list.
if you look on their website 'realsteel.co.uk' and under 'fuel systems' go to page S6/9.
as per pic below.
I was going to attach a link but it says it's not secure ??
I've had a couple of these and the do contain rods, jets, springs etc.
hope this helps, Stuart.

slightly less £££ than webcon.

and here is something that you probably should avoid

although i had some success with a chinese Carter BBD, so for little wasted might be worth a try

As carburettors go Edelbrock make an excellent doorstop. Sorry, that’s as constructive as I can manage on the subject.
