Capri 2.8 injection

Post by Matt74 »

I bought this at the end of August last year.
Previous owner bought it in 1991 and then put it in the garage in 1998/99 where it stayed for approx 25 years.
Sadly the owner passed away at just 53 years old from MND which is why it came up for sale!

I bought my first Capri in 1990 when I was 16, and sold my last one which was Capri number 3 in 1996. That one was a 2.8i lookalike but was actually a 2.0 GL.

I had been watching eBay for a while hoping that one of my old Capris would turn up for sale but I think they are probably long gone.

Any way this one came up for sale and it looked like it might be quite solid so I went to see it.

It has a few dings and plenty of scuffs which are all staying as this is going to be a driver and not a show car.
There is some minor corrosion by the headlights and behind the wings but it's minimal and I should be able to repair this without removing the front wings.

There was also a small patch required on the passenger side sill near the rear wheel arch and a small hole on the driver side rear wheel arch which I repaired in September
The tail gate will need repairing also but underneath is rock solid so just needed a good clean and some paint!

Will update later with more pics and info but for now here's some photos from when I bought the car last year.

Love a Capri.

My old man had 3 in his time, don’t think he paid more than £75 for any of ‘em. Loved them though. 👍
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not…

Had one years back. Should have had discs on the rear. Big slides in anything but dry surface

Yeah I sold my last one for £250 so it really pained me to pay £5000 for this one although there were a lot new parts that came with it!

Bought it for £1700 im 2001 as it sat in that photo and sold it three years later for £2350.

Did nothing but feed it fuel and polish the thing.
One of the few I wish I had kept and no, I don't like to think what a 2.8 injection special in that condition is worth now.

At least you made it a bit of money on it Dave. I always lose when I sell a car.
Best not to look at today's prices!
