Floyd Brothers Dodge Ram Van

Post by Stu »

Something a bit different that I'll be working on in the background.

Fed up of hiring a tow vehicle to get to the track and also fed up of having a camper and still having to sleep in a tent for the first night, until the girls get to the track, I decided to bit the bullet and get something to tow with, that I can sleep in as well for a night or two.

Enter the latest addition to the FBR Fleet, a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Van, that I acquired recently. We have dubbed it The Murder Van, as it looks like something from an American kidnap movie.

Overall, it's in pretty good shape. Few ripples in the cargo door, but the paint is fine, so confident that these can be pushed and pulled out. Cruise control, air con, 3 on the tree and nice and comfortable. Very happy so far. Roof needs a repaint and some surface treatment, but that's budgeted in. Also on the list are new brake lines, front wheel bearings and a ball joint, which I knew about.

Tow bar on the way, courtesy of Mr Goodale at GAS and it's otherwise good to go. I've driven around plenty and other than needing a new battery, it's been as good as gold and drives really nicely.

I'm not going to camper it, but I will be building in tool storage and a basic bed, so it's comfortable enough to kip in while I'm waiting for the camper to arrive, or if I am at the track on my own.

Anyway, here it is.

It’s a dreamcatcher and dolphin free zone… [-X :D

Derek, I was after a boogie van, but then to his credit Blue spotted this and sent me a picture, I hadn’t considered these u til then. The extra room is very handy and I’m really enjoying driving it, so a right result!

So far this evening, I’ve been measuring up for a bed and I’ve successfully unfixed the central locking, which is good…

So I’ve got a nice solid van with a carpeted rear, what to do…

Start pulling it apart, obviously! :D

First things first, the jack and brace can go, they are in the way and I’m buggered if I’m going to trust a scissor jack at the side of the road anyway. Bit of extra weight gone!

Carpet up, some board removed that has had some water damage from a rough rear door seal leak. Preparations for a day of woodworking over the weekend. Good job I’ve got a van to go to B&Q in…

Why so? It’s passed MOT and square plates are allowed on imports.

That said, it’s getting a new plate tomorrow anyway. :thumbright:

A fair point and something I hadn't considered!

Good news is, the new plate is correct American size.

Bad news is, they are making me wait 4 weeks...

That looks great.

My mate put a rock and roll bed in his van for trips away...he said it worked really well.
