A problem shared.... is a laugh for your mates

The latest little jobs are :
Track down & set up rear brakes- This is on hold while i try to track bits down, i have a lead in the States (come on Andy )

Put fuel system together- The car came with a fuel cell and way-back-when i bought a BG pump, filter and some Aeroquip from Wil.
The present task is to locate the fuel cell and goodies, preferably in the trunk where it will all be protected and is easy to show off to admiring fans well... we all show off a bit, don't we?

I checked out Kev's thread from when he fitted the fuel cell to the Taxi and that seemed like a plan, then Blue & others pointed out that the pump has to be below the tank so it stays 'wet'.
This inspired a re-think as i really didn't want the pump hanging off the chassis where it would get wrecked.
I realised that if the roll bar struts were just an inch further apart in the trunk, i could slot the cell inbetween them and still have a vast amount (by normal standards) of trunk space.

Paul you will be surprised how much you can get in that trunk, even with the fuel cell. A bit of careful packing saw loads of stuff in the Coronet for 3 people away for the weekend... Including 2 tents and barbie! Sometimes 4 of us! Oh, and I had a nitrous bottle in there too!

Bit easier last year though! LOL.

The cage struts in the trunk were, horribly, just bolted to the floor and only when i was doing the axle i realised this and welded in some little extension pieces to the chassis so i could bolt through the floor into these.

Until now, cos now i need to move the damn cage rails to fit me tank in
Luck was on my side- i unbolted the rails and they virtually sprang out to where i want 'em , i just had to re-drill the base-plates and bolt them back up.
The cell now sits nicely forward on the flat section of the trunk, with the cell sump over the wheel-well. The pump and filter sit nice and low in the well (with the filter at 45*), (i'll put in some drain holes in case of spillage) and it's all nice & protected in the trunk

The other option is to sink the cell in the floor.
I have done this on the Sox and Julie's car so that it gets the weight low and allows trunk space.

The hard part is then getting the fuel pump low enough, but it can be done.

Just a thought....

OOPs, sorry, just re-read your post, scratch that...

I prefered the pump and filter under the car on my old Coronet.. More space in trunk, and if it did decide to leak, it would not stay inside the car. But it does look nice like that.

I was going to have my new fuel / nitrous on show in the bed of the truck, pump, filter and regulator are all billet on mine. I was going to custom paint the nitrous bottle and the fuel cell. Would of looked trick! Oh well No time now!

I completely agree about having the pump under the floor.
You really need it there so that it is lower than the cell sump to make the pump work efficiently.

I would seriously consider mounting it outside the car Paul, scrutineers will pick you up on it, I'm sure.
